Accord to the creater, 19th September each year is the day when everyone
in the world should talk like a pirate. For example, an observer of this holiday
would greet friends not with "Hello," but with "Ahoy, matey!" The holiday, and
its observance, springs from a romanticized view of the Golden Age of
Piracy.
International Talk Like A Pirate Day is celebrated in more than 40
countries worldwide. Besides talking like a pirate, some people dress in pirate
costumes as well. And some communities work with organizations such as Childhood
Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care to raise funds or increase awareness
of cancer support and research.
