The newest wave of online gaming is 3D webgames. These amazing fully 3D games come to directly in your browser, just like a Flash game, only with all the power of a 3D engine at your fingertips. While western companies are pioneering this cool new technology, only the most select and specialist Chinese companies have braved this new frontier.
One such company is JWGames, located in Fuzhou City, southeast China. Despite the challenge of never-encountere technical barriers, their MMO City of Steam is looking very strong indeed. The game utilizes the cutting-edge Unity3D game engine, a powerful young game engine that is fast becoming the world's best browser 3D technology.

City of Steam braves a new setting called 'Industrial Age Fantasy'-a new style composed from the merits of both Medieval Fantasy, Urban Fantasy and Steam Age Fantasy. It's cool and stylish. It's intriguing and stunningly original. Of course, with originality comes risk, but looking at the zounds of concept art they have, this masterpiece will have no trouble reeling the players in.

From the sneak previews we've had so far, it looks like this game is a hack n' slash battler, utilizing some of the elements of the well known Diablo game series.
One thing JWGames is very proud of (and doubly protective of) is their amazing optimization capabilities. As we know, MMO "bloat" can easily reach the tens of gigabytes. However, to enter this fully rendered 3D world, with hundreds of characters and detailed textures, players only need to download a tiny 3MB initial client, smaller than almost all Flash games on the market.

As the player continues to play, the game invisibly acquires whatever extra resources it needs and dynamically puts the pieces of the puzzle together. JWGames lead designers claim that the game can generate an infinite number of game environments from a tiny 800kB. Basically, the player will never notice any download time.
They are hoping for an open beta at the end of this year. So are we!
