Astro Empires, a highly addictive Space Strategy Game, celebrated its 3rd anniversary last month. We are glad to take the chance to interview with Nuno, the development manager (CEO) of Astro Empires. Thanks Nuno very much for sharing Astro Empires's details with us.

BBGsite: So glad to do an interview with you and congratulations on Astro Empires' 3rd Anniversary! First of all, would you please briefly introduce yourself and your development team to our readers?

Astro Empires: Hi, my name is Nuno, I'm the game and development manager (CEO), beside me Astro Empires counts with a team of developers, designers, and support staff. Our office is located at Portugal, but we have some contributors and volunteers around the world.

BBGsite: What is Astro Empires? Could you give us a rough overview of this game, including its storyline and background?

Astro Empires: Astro Empires is a real-time space strategy game played in persist universes, where you can build bases, fleets, research technologies, form alliances, fight epic battles and much more. AE was lunched at 3 years ago, since then the universe size, and number of players has grown.

BBGsite: Why did you decide to develop Astro Empires into a strategy game instead of a RPG or something else? Where did your inspiration for this game come from?

Astro Empires: I always liked the space theme, and concept new and futuristic things, like technologies, buildings, spaceships, it's very interesting and motivating.

BBGsite: What's the highlight of Astro Empires that you are most proud of? Why? Can you describe it for our readers, especially for those who have never heard of this game before?

Astro Empires: The game community is very active, we have players highly addicted, and that makes the game very intense in terms of team strategy, including alliances, diplomacy, wars, making it a very interesting game that runs in a future universe full of active players.

BBGsite: What has impressed you most as far as you can recollect during the past 3 years of operation? Would you share it with us?

Astro Empires: One of the things that impressed me was the size the game reached, to give an idea of the game size, I can tell that right now the AE universe has more that 1 500 000 colonizable astros, which more than 400 000 are already colonized by players. Another thing that impressed me the most is 3 years after the game started, we still have players from the first days playing activity right now, showing the game long longevity, and proving the game high quality. And finally the game community impresses me too, it's interesting to see wars that involve more than 1000 active players, with single battles involving hundreds of simultaneous players.

BBGsite: So far, how many registered players do you have? And what's your objective for this year? How many registered players do you expect to have?

Astro Empires: We have right now over 40 000 active players and hope to increase it after we launch a new game layout, that will be more appealing and after we translate the game to other languages. We can't predict the number of players for the future, but the game has potential to reach very high numbers.

BBGsite: Astro Empires is currently being translated to several different languages. Can you give us more details? How many language versions are available now and what are they? What about the upcoming versions that players can expect?

Astro Empires: It should be possible to play the game soon in several different languages, we have people translating the game to more than 20 languages as we speak, Portuguese being the first to be ready for launch. Regarding upcoming versions, we always try to improve the game, so from time to time we lunch new features, to keep it interesting.

BBGsite: It is said that you'll launch "a new game layout". Could you explain to us how it will differ from the previous one?

Astro Empires: The new layout will be more appealing, and we hope to increase the number of players that register in the game. Beside that the new layout will be more flexible that the actual to the creating of alternative game skins. We will probably see very interesting game skins created by players.

BBGsite: What about other special plans for this game? Would you give us some examples?

Astro Empires: After the new layout, we expect to improve some of the game interface with additional interactive features. Later we want to include in the game 3D images and animations of the game items (buildings, spaceships, etc), we already have people working on it. We have others plans for the future, but we will not reveal it now.
