The official announcement is as below:
Greetings and salutations friends!
Yes, we build our web based RPGs remotely at a top secret underground lab, deep below the earth's surface. What is it like? That is exactly what the children from a local school got to see for themselves this week during a special fieldtrip. Here is their incredible story -- and surprise, some survived!
The bus rolled in at exactly 1pm on Monday* and the friendly students were gathered into the inconspicuous shop**. They were sworn to secrecy and vowed to not hold us responsible in the event of monster attacks, stray fireballs, and ancient evil curses. Despite their young age, we were pretty sure they were all smarter than us. So the team was required to wear protective gear, maintain a safe distance, and not give them anything that they could construct McGyver style explosive weaponry from. Then the tour began!
- Which was
not long after we started working - The giant Dragon Logo might have been a weeee bit of a give away
They met the game masters Galanoth (AdventureQuest), Cysero (DragonFable) and Warlic (MechQuest) along with the rest of our smiling team. We walked them through, from start to finish, how we create new things for the game each week. They got to see Thyton sketching away on his Wacom Monitor and where Jemini would color and Korin would animate. They saw where Zhoom and Minimal coded the AQWorlds game engine and a peak at where Rolith goes crazy fixing all the bugs. I am rarely surprised at how quickly and accurately students at their age understand... everything. They had a variety of interests including art, music and one girl had dreams of creating her own game. I instantly recognized the look in her eye. It is likely we will all of us here be working for her in the future. They liked the Band Room (Side story: We decided to start a band after the release of MQ and filled a room guitars, drums, a mixer, mics and... an cello, an electric violin, and Cysero's electric Ukelle – Warlic uses this room as his office.) They also got a kick out of the green screen room which has only ever been used once – for that live action martial arts game that we decided never to release. Surprisingly, my room caught some "COOOOOL"s – mostly because there are assorted swords hanging all over the walls. Fortunately we did not lose any children to the very heavy and loosely dangling 47" Frostmourne on the most accessible wall. The students also seemed surprise that I was a huge fan of DragonBall Z. I showed how we created the ads that are in Shonen Jump magazine and they got to meet Aisha, Oishii and Jemini who put it together. It would be hard to miss all the whiteboards with sketches and ideas on what we are working on next. This is mainly the wintery Frostvale special events that will be taking place across the games in the next few weeks. This year the moglins get eaten in the MMO – 100% guaranteed!
There was one strong moral theme during the visit.... we have built all of our games from scratch. No one handed it to us... no one asked us to do it.... We just love making and expanding our games and we our not scared to keep trying new things and pushing ourselves to get better. Ours is an underdog story... a group of silly people that do not take themselves too seriously, but have a big dream and are working really hard at it. So, at the end of the tour punch and fruit was served while we used the MiB style mind wiping device to clear their memories of the location. We accidentally hit Warlic in the process... hope this does not effect this week's release at all!
Battle on!
